Jesus Discusses The Sower

Let’s review how Jesus discusses the Sower and the seed in the Parable of The Sower.

Mark 4:11-15

11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: 12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. 13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? 14 The sower soweth the word. 15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Matthew 13: 4

Listen! A sower went out to sow. 4And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up.

Discussion

This is a very revealing parable The sower is someone who shares the word of God. In this parable Jesus shows us that we may share the word but the word (seed) falls on ears that do not want to hear. To coin a phrase the word goes in one ear and out the other. There is no soil (desire) to nurture the seed.

Matthew 13:5-6

5Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil.6But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. 7Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.

Mark 4:16-18

16And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: when they hear the word, they immediately receive it with joy. 17But they have no root, and endure only for a while; then, when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. 18And others are those sown among the thorns: these are the ones who hear the word, 19but the cares of the world, and the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing

Some people get caught up in the moment; or sometimes caught in the emotion of a service. They accept the word but they are quickly pulled back into their old ways and the word is forgotten as soon as things get tough. New Christians are vulnerable to falling back if they don’t have support to guide them. Seasoned Christians need to be a “trellis” or support to allow the root of new Christians to grab hold. The enemy tries to uproot new Christians at all cost.

Matthew 13:8

8Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Mark 4:20

20And these are the ones sown on the good soil: they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”

Then there are those who truly receive the word. They seek Jesus and choose to hold the Word in their hearts. They read the Word. The seed is nurtured and it is permitted to grow and bear fruit due to the fertile soil.

My prayer is that whosoever needs to hear the Word let someone prepare the soil so the seeds can grow .

God Bless You
