The Letter of Paul to the Church in Rome

The Christian is Freed from Slavery to the Law

The law has dominion over a man as long as he lives. For example, a woman under the law is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If she marries again while he lives, she is deemed an adulteress. But if he dies, she is freed from that law and if she marries again, she is not an adulteress.

We are also dead to the law by the body of Christ. So, we are delivered from the law in that death so we should serve in newness of spirit, not in the oldness of the letter.

The Function of the Law

Without the law sin was dead. When the commandment came sin revived. The commandment, which was ordained to life deceived us and thereby, slew us. The law is holy. The commandment is holy.

The Inward Struggle

The law is spiritual, but we are carnal sold under sin. In weakness, those things I know to be wrong, I know not to do, I do and those things I should do, I do not. If I am doing those things which I know not to do I consent that the law is good. Then it is no longer me who is doing it but sin which dwells in me. For I know that in my flesh dwells no good thing. For I know that the will to do what is right is in me, but how to always perform that will, I cannot find. With my mind I serve the law of God. But with my flesh the law of sin.

B. The Christians Spiritual Life

The Life of the Spirit

What the law could not do, in that it was weak in the flesh, God sending his own son in the likeness of the sinful flesh condemned sin in the flesh. Now the righteousness of the law can be fulfilled in us who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. They that are in the flesh cannot please God.

If Christ be in you; the body is dead because of sin but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. So, if we live after the flesh we shall die but, if we through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, we live.

Children of God

The many led by the Spirit of God, are the sons of God. Not receiving the Spirit of bondage again to fear, but the Spirit of adoption and we cry Abba Father.

We are the children of God, heirs of God, Joint heirs with Christ. So, it be if we suffer with him, we may be glorified together.

Glory as our Destiny

The present sufferings are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

We are saved by hope but hope that is seen is not hope. Why would a man hope for that which he sees? But if we hope for the unseen, we do so with patient waiting. And the Spirit helps us with our infirmities since we don’t know what to pray for as we should, the Spirit intercedes on our behalf.

God has called us to Share his Glory

All things work together for good to those who love God. Those whom he has called to his purpose. Those he called he also justified and Glorified.

The Place of Israel

The Privileges of Israel

The Israelites, who are the adopted, and have been glorified, who have been given the covenants, the law, the service of God and the promises. Who are the fathers and who concerning the flesh Christ came who is over all. God blessed forever. Amen.

God Has Kept his Promise

They who are the children of the flesh are not the children of God. But the children of the promise are counted for the seed. This is the word of promise, for the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of his calling.

God is Not Unjust

God has said, “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Therefore, God will have mercy on who he will, and he will harden on who he will. He might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of his mercy which he had prepared unto glory. Even on those he called as Jews and as Gentiles.

All has been Foretold in the Old Testament

I will call them my people which were not my people. And it was said in the place where it shall come to them. Ye are not my people but there shall they be called the children of the living God.

The Gentiles which followed not after righteousness have attained righteousness through faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness has not attained righteousness through the law. For they followed it not by faith but through works, and they stumbled at the stumbling stone.

Israel Fails to See that it is God that makes us Holy

Prayers to God that Israel will be saved. They have the zeal of God but not according to knowledge. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness for everyone who believes.

The Testimony of Moses

Moses describes the righteousness of the law as being achieved by following the law.

However, if one will confess by mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in his heart that God has raised him from the dead, he shall be saved. For the belief in the heart brings righteousness and the confession by mouth is made unto salvation. For the scripture says whosoever shall believe in him shall not be ashamed. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Israel Has No Excuse

So how shall they call on whom they have not believed. But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Israel being referred to as a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Only portions of the scripture are represented in the written summaries however, the narration on the video includes the books in their entirety.

For the Love of God,
